Delivering Bags of Hope
Delivering Bags of Hope is a food distribution event that provides 2 weeks worth of groceries for 350 of SDJ's neediest families over the winter break when school is not in session (when children cannot rely on school meals) and for 50 Janesville senior citizens.
This distribution event takes place every December where close to 250 volunteers sort, bag, and deliver groceries to receiving families. We partner with Festival Foods, Kwik Trip, and Seneca Foods to provide grocery items, and Dollar General to provide toiletry items and a warehouse facility for the bagging event to take place. Our community partners are truly amazing!
Unfortunately, the economic challenges faced by the Janesville community have only been exacerbated by the repercussions of the pandemic. The sad reality is that more and more SDJ families struggle to make ends meet. We now observe poverty levels near 50% for families in the School District of Janesville, unemployment rates have increased, and achievement gaps have widened. These unprecedented challenges make our efforts to feed families more important than ever before.
We appreciate your continued support! "Together" we can make a difference!
