Dual Enrollment Options
- Start College Now - allows Junior and Senior students to take courses through Blackhawk Technical College
- Early College Credit Program - allows all high school students to take courses at an “institution of higher learning”, generally a 4 year university or 2 year extension
- Partner in Education (PIE) - allows Junior and Senior students to take specific courses to receive UW-Whitewater credit
Advanced Standing and Transcripted Credit
- Advanced Standing (AS) - SDJ courses that are equivalent to BTC courses and taught in our high schools, which provide credit when a student enrolls at BTC
- Transcripted Credit (TC) - BTC courses taught by SDJ teachers that are taught in our high schools and produce a college transcript to transfer to other institutions of higher learning

Certificate of Global Competence 9-12
- Earn through coursework, experiences and reflections to develop cultural literacy, participation in global activities, and contributions through global service projects.
Global Scholars Requirements:
- Coursework
- Four credits in one world language
- Four credits in courses with global content
- Eight reflections demonstrating cultural literacy
- Minimum of four reflections on books
- Minimum of one reflection on art, music, or film
- Participation in school-wide global activities
- Minimum of twenty hours of work on a global service project

Work-Based Learning Opportunities
- Students must be enrolled in Mentorship, Internship, COOP, or Youth Apprenticeship if they are attending a related career-based learning opportunity. Students interested in volunteering or job shadowing do not need to be enrolled in any specific courses.
- The Educational Agreement Printable PDF must be signed by the student, parent/guardian, employer, and district facilitator, and submitted to the district.
- The student must provide their own transportation.
- The student must maintain employment throughout the SDJ Career-Based Learning experience.
Craftsman with Character
The Craftsman with Character course is a semester-long experience that runs each weekday for two class periods. Four of these days are spent job shadowing, allowing students to immerse themselves in a culture while gaining knowledge of a trade. The remaining day offers classroom instruction in which students explore their life goals and are encouraged to recognize their unique gifts and talents. Special emphasis is given to helping them recognize their self-worth.
Internships
This course is designed to provide a challenging opportunity for motivated, responsible students who are ready to direct their own learning. After an initial period of classroom instruction dealing with leadership, ethics, critical and creative thinking, students will gain experience through career exploration in a business, non-profit, government, or academic setting. Students will be released during the class period for the 50-hour field experience with their professional mentor. Additional contact hours can be arranged as agreed upon by the student, teacher, and mentor. A detailed log, portfolio, and final project are presented at the completion of the course.
HS Work-Based Learning Opportunities
- Students are required to maintain a daily record of their work experiences.
- Students must work an average of 15 hours per week for the duration of the program (minimum of 480 hours).
- Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workplace.
- Absence from school means absence from work. Students may not report to the workplace without the teacher coordinator's permission when absent from school.
- Student employment must be coordinated with the school-based learning.
- Be enrolled in a public or private secondary school or an approved program leading to a General Equivalency Degree (GED)/High School Equivalency Degree (HSED); or
- Be enrolled in a home-based program or Charter School;
- Perform satisfactorily on the Wisconsin Pupil Assessment System or otherwise demonstrate the ability to attain the required skills; and
- Have participated in career exploration, guidance and/or education activities, which allow them to make an informed choice about their chosen career area
