In these unprecedented times, the United States Congress passed several stimulus bills to provide emergency financial assistance to school districts to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools. The information below outlines the funding the School District of Janesville is eligible for under these stimulus bills and how the district is working to equitably use these funds to address the identified needs coming out of the pandemic while focusing on the District Promises. |

District Addressing Long-term School Closure
Our district will use ESSER grant funds to support the growth of virtual learning in our district due to COVID-19. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.
District Mental Health Services & Supports
Our district will use ESSER grant funds towards counseling needs for our pupils and families transitioning to our ARISE Virtual Academy. Licensed and non-licensed counseling staff will support these families to ensure communication between home and school for a smooth transition. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.
District Preparedness & Response to COVID-19
Cleaning the schools, providing sanitation and prevention supplies and equipment including hand sanitizer and disinfectant sprayers, providing personal protective equipment and apparel including face masks, shields and gloves, providing supplies to encourage social distancing and paying for extra transportation routes for social distancing will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among all students, staff, and families. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.

The School District of Janesville used GEER grant funds to support the growth of virtual learning in our district due to COVID-19. Many students chose to move to virtual learning because of the pandemic which required a significant increase in virtual learning staff. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.

District Addressing Long-term School Closure
The School District of Janesville will use ESSER II grant funds to support the growth of virtual learning in our district due to COVID-19. We will also use grant funds to address lower class sizes at the elementary level for greater access to learning fundamental skills and maintain access to academic pathways at the high school level disrupted due to COVID-19. We will also use grant funds to provide academic interventions, especially in the core areas of Math and Reading. We will use funds to focus on curriculum development/modification to address the curriculum issues arising due to loss of learning. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.
District Preparedness & Response to COVID-19
Cleaning the schools, providing sanitation and prevention supplies and equipment including hand sanitizer and disinfectant sprayers, providing personal protective equipment and apparel including face masks, shields and gloves, providing supplies, equipment and furniture to encourage social distancing, adding no touch water filling stations and other equipment to reduce touch points, and paying for extra transportation routes for social distancing will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among all students, staff, and families. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.

Focus Areas
District Addressing Long-term School Closure
Our district will use ESSER grant funds to provide evidence-based high-dosage tutoring across all grade levels. We will use funds to focus on high quality new instructional materials/curriculum to improve student achievement. We will use funds to analyze data to document efficacy of Evidence Based Improvement Strategies and to adjust programming as appropriate. We will use funding to develop integrated community supports with local organizations and pilot a Community School Model at our highest poverty level elementary school. We will use funds to provide additional security and security training for District Technology. We will ensure that no student or teacher will be denied participation based on gender, race, national origin, disability or age.
District Preparedness & Response to COVID-19
Using COVID-19 mitigation cleaning products, providing hand sanitizer and personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves upon request, and making facility modifications for social distancing and air quality improvements will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among all students, staff and families.
