The School District of Janesville has a comprehensive educational system that consists of twelve elementary schools, three middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, and three charter schools.  Instruction takes place at the designated school building face to face with a certified instructor(s).

In the event instruction cannot take place face to face, instruction will take place at home through a distance learning model provided by the student’s current teacher(s). 

Students are automatically enrolled in face to face instruction. Note: Early Childhood and 4-year-old kindergarten are 1/2 day programs.

The School District of Janesville has a well established K-12 virtual program, ARISE Virtual Academy. Instruction takes place in the student’s home on a daily basis with certified instructors available virtually throughout the day to instruct and provide assistance. Students are able to web conference with instructors as needed. Appointments are made for these conferences.

High school students are required to complete a semester worth of courses.  Movement between the high schools and AVA is only permissible for the first three weeks of each semester.

Students and families have the option to also take courses at both ARISE and a designated school building.  Determination of which courses can be taken in this hybrid model are based on the individual student with ARISE representation, designated building representation, the student, and parent present.  

The hybrid model creates a consistent daily schedule for students and families following the guidelines above for face to face and virtual instruction.  

Examples of potential blended model student schedules:

• Student participates in ARISE in the student’s home for English 9 and Algebra I, and attends designated high school for periods 1 through 6 to complete all other courses.  
• Student participates in ARISE in the student’s home for all core courses such as math, reading, writing, social studies, science, and attends designated school for electives or special courses such as music, art, and physical education.
