Welcome to Edison Middle School

We, the Edison Community, believe all students can be successful.  Therefore, we hold high expectations for safety, learning, core values, and community involvement.

Exemplary Programs At Edison Get The School Year Off To A Great Start

As the new school year begins, several Edison programs support and enrich excellent classroom instruction and learning. First Day Conferences, The Edison Extension, and Intergenerational Day all contribute to academic excellence and building connections with the Edison Community.

First Day Conferences provided an opportunity for families and advisors to meet and become better acquainted, look at past academic achievements, and set goals for a successful 2009-2010 school year. An essential part of the Edison experience, advisory groups form a home base for every student as a caring adult teacher meets daily at the beginning of the school day with a small group of students. The First Day Conferences established a foundation for ongoing communication and cooperation between Edison students, their families, and their advisor.

The Edison Extension is now in its second year of service to the Edison Community. Meeting after the regular school day, coordinator Cindy Squire works with students, staff, and community members to promote academic growth, healthy life-styles, nutrition, and fun. Edison Extension is also known around Edison as the CLC club (Community Learning Connection), and is funded by a federal grant. Students and adults can be seen regularly in halls and classrooms around Edison as they get homework help, work on math and literacy software, enjoy nutritious snacks, and participate in physical activities.

Intergenerational Day is an annual event involving Edison 7th grade students, staff, and volunteers from the community. Grandparents and other seniors visit school, share their stories with 7th graders, and are interviewed by students on many areas of life and schooling in past generations. Students then write about the experiences of their volunteer visitors. The benefits of connecting across the generations has proven rewarding and beneficial both to students and the community members.

These programs, in addition to daily excellence in teaching and learning, contribute to the positive experience students receive at Edison, as stated in our Mission Statement…”We hold high expectations for safety, learning, core values, and community involvement.”
